Safety Policies and Procedures
To maintain a safe working environment for all students in the instructional laboratories the
following lab policies and procedures are to be observed at all times!
Attire Safety Goggles
Approved eye protection is required in the Long hair tied back
laboratory at all times. NO plunging necklines
Shirt covering
• Shirts covering shoulders and entire torso
shoulders
Required • Long hair tied back NO bare midriff
NO holes in clothes
• Socks with shoes
• Gloves (when specified)
Gloves
• Shorts, capris (when required)
• Skirts, dresses
• Open-toe shoes/sandals NO shorts or capris
Not Allowed
• Any skin exposed on legs or torso
• Holes in clothes
• Low necklines Socks with shoes
Conduct
• Quiet and orderly manner
• Do your own lab work and report independently unless otherwise instructed.
• Direct laboratory questions to the instructor.
Required • Safe and uncluttered work bench
• Keep door lab drawers closed when not in use
• Store unnecessary materials (books/backpacks, etc.) in an appropriate location during the
lab, not on the lab benches or floor next to workstation.
• Horseplay (Failure to maintain appropriate conduct in the lab may result in removal.)
Not Allowed
• Food or drink in the lab
Injuries
• Immediately report injury to your lab instructor.
If you are
injured in • Wash skin thoroughly if it comes in contact with toxic, caustic, or corrosive chemicals.

• See Safety Orientation for eye wash stations, showers, and burn blankets.
