Fume Hoods
• The purpose of the fume hoods is to exhaust dangerous
fumes from the lab. The fume hoods provide a safe
location for storing certain chemicals and chemical waste,
including acids and bases.
• The fume hoods will also be used when performing
reactions that generate caustic or flammable gases.
• To check that the fume hoods are operating correctly, lower
the front shield to a height of ~ 6” and hold a tissue in front
of the opening. If the hood is functioning properly, the air
flow will pull the tissue into the hood.
